Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic disorder affecting the skin joints.
It's areas characterized by inflamed, red and pointed out that often develop silvery scales, mainly localized on the scalp, elbows, knees and bottom back.
The disorder is chronic and recurrent and may vary by severity, limited to a few small spots to cover the entire body. Even the nails of hands and feet may be affected. In addition, psoriasis can also cause inflammation of the joints that is known as psoriatic arthritis and is often in the 10-15% of individuals suffering from psoriasis.

The cause of psoriasis is unknown but is thought to be caused by a speed of growth and replacement of abnormal skin cells. The condition is not contagious, but hereditary. It is believed that psoriasis has a genetic component. In addition, other factors may aggravate this condition, including stress, excessive consumption of alcohol and smoking.

TYPES OF PSORIASIS

Psoriasis discoide:
or a plaque psoriasis
most common type
Symptoms: reddened skin areas and raised on the trunk, arms, legs, knees, elbows, scalp and genital
the nails may be inspessite and cavity

Erythroderma psoriasis:
spread of inflammation and of esfoliazione skin on almost the whole body
accompanied by strong itching, swelling and pain
can be fatal, since the extreme inflammation and exfoliation makes the body unable to regulate the temperature and the skin to act as a barrier

Psoriasis flessural:
read inflamed areas of skin
strikes in the folds of skin, especially around the genitals, under the armpits, under the belly in overweight persons, and under the breasts
worsens due to friction and sweating and makes them vulnerable to infection from fungus

Guttate psoriasis:
affects mainly children
Symptoms: Many small areas of reddened skin and raised
usually the onset of the disorder is preceded by a sore throat

Nail Psoriasis:
symptoms: discoloration, holes, lines across the nails, thickening of skin under the nail, and crushing loss of unghia

Pustular psoriasis:
Symptoms: small pustules around the body or only on palms, soles of the feet, and other small areas

Psoriatic arthritis:
affects the joints and connective tissue, especially of the fingers of the hands and feet
may cause swelling of the fingers known as dactilite
approximately 10-15% of individuals who suffer from psoriasis also have psoriatic arthritis

The goal of treatment is to reduce inflammation and slow the growth and the scales. for the moment there is no cure for psoriasis.
Treatment may include one or a combination of the following remedies:
oils and creams to moisturize your skin
sunlight or exposure to light
drugs, including steroids (like cortisone creams to) metotraxate, etc..
creams containing vitamin D
creams containing salicylic acid or creosote
food supplements containing Samambaia, pau d'arco, fedegosa, sarsaparilla, cat's claw, suma, mullaca, bold, bitter melon, cashew, jaborandi, andiroba (topical), copaiba (topical).
